Who are the BRICS who represent 40% of the world’s population

The BRICS: Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa hold their annual summit of emerging countries since Sunday in Xiamen, China.

They are customary growth rates close to both figures. Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa – is even entitled to a name, the acronym “Brics”, made up of the initials of the names of the same countries in English (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa).

The Brics, which account for nearly half of the world’s population and more than 20% of the world’s gross domestic product (GDP), have met since 2011 for an annual summit. This year the meeting is held in Xiamen, China. But before the Brics, there have already been the Bric. The group, which then had four countries, was joined in 2011 by South Africa.

The heads of state of the Brics, gathered until Tuesday, will be joined by Thailand, Mexico, Egypt, Guinea and Tajikistan as observer countries, to discuss a “Brics Plus” plan the possible extension of the bloc created in 2009.
